If you run a law firm, here's a question. When do you think somebody last looked you up online before they instructed you? The answer is every day. And what they find, or what they don't find, shapes whether they pick up the phone or not.

I'm Ros Harrison, and I've spent 15 years in digital marketing helping professional services show up properly online. Today I want to talk about social media for legal firms, and how they do it without falling foul of their regulator.

Let's start with the obvious one. Why do legal firms even need social media? Your clients research you before they make contact. A professional, consistent page on Facebook or LinkedIn creates trust. A dormant page does the complete opposite.

The next question could be an uncomfortable one. Is social media compliant for a law firm? The answer is yes. If you apply the same high standards you would anywhere else, the Solicitors Regulation Authority expects you to act with integrity and protect public trust online as well as off. That means no misleading claims, careful handling of confidentiality, and a clear line between general information and actual legal advice. Compliance is about judgment, not silence.

So what should you actually post? Content that educates, builds trust, and shows the human side of the firm. Answer the questions that clients ask in their first meeting. Comment on a change in the law. Introduce your team. Share a case study, as long as you have consent. But keep advice general.

How often? Consistently, but not constantly. Two to three posts a week will be more productive than a flurry of posts and then nothing for months.

And here is where most firms get stuck. The intention is there, but the time is not. If that sounds familiar, this is exactly the work we take off your hands. We plan, write, schedule and monitor your content, with every post built to protect your reputation. You keep admin control. Nothing goes live without your sign-off.

If your firm's presence has gone quiet, let's change that. The link to our social media management page is below. Why not fill out a form today to start better social media?
